 Bulb Mania at the
Eden Project – an astonishing show daffodils, tulips and other springtime delights coming to bloom in
March, April and May.
2007 will be Eden’s fourth spring festival and it gets better and better
with more than a million bulbs being added in successive waves of
colour. Come in March for the daffodils, April for the tulips and May
for the lilies.
What’s best in April?
in April, a river of grape hyacinth
flows into life as Bulb Mania comes to a crescendo. Red Riding Hood is among the early tulips.
End of April/May: The tulips are at their finest with every type
represented. The scented orange variety Ballerina and pink Barcelona are
among Eden’s sensual head-turners. Bulb
Mania has become a must-see event right up alongside the magnolias,
rhododendrons and camellias of the great woodland gardens such as
Heligan, Trengwainton and Trebah. |

Padstow Obby Oss Day
The first day of May is Obby Oss day in Padstow.* The origins of this
traditional celebration are lost in the midst of time but it is thought
to celebrate the arrival of Spring and may even be an ancient fertility
festival. *or Monday if 1st is a Sunday. Inhabitants of Padstow (those
born in the town) traditionally dress in white, with family loyalties
dictating whether they follow the 'Red'/original Oss, or the
'Blue'/peace Oss. Both Oss' are similar in appearance and perform a
dancing ritual accompanied by an hypnotic folk song (unique to Padstow)
around the town. Each Oss is lead by a group of followers as they make
their way through the narrow streets and around the harbour. The
festivities start at 10am with the 'Blue' Oss making its first
appearance from its stable, followed at 11am by the appearance of the
'Red' Oss from its home. Celebrations go on all day until the Oss'
finally go to bed after 10pm.
